ABOUT SEAN

Growing up in Southport, I've seen how our town has been let down.

I CAN DO BETTER.

My Life

Southport holds a special place in my heart—it's where I was born, raised, and worked as a bus driver for 16 years. Today, I live in Kew with my wife and our children, Charlie and Max. I have served as a councillor in Kew Ward since being first elected in 2019. This has deepened my understanding of the challenges that our community face, and hardened my resolve to address these challenges.

My Past

My career journey began at Superdrug on Eastbank Street, where I gained insight into the vital role of our high street in driving our town's economy.

In 2005, I joined our local bus depot, following in my father's footsteps. Over the years, I dedicated myself to driving our town's buses, recognizing the critical importance of a reliable and affordable transport network. This infrastructure opens economic opportunities and ensures access to education and healthcare.

During my tenure as a trade union steward in the bus depot for the last six years of my employment, I led a successful strike in 2017 advocating for fair pay. Our nine-week strike, alongside nine other depots across the North West, achieved our goal and secured the desired outcome. This gave me the experience of organising workers with a goal, this gave me the knowledge of how to achieve broad aims, negotiate effectively and achieve aims that had a huge impact on the lives of the people I represented.

My political beliefs are deeply influenced by my industrial trade union background and my working-class upbringing. I've been fortunate to have inspiring role models in my life.

My grandmother emigrated to the UK from Ireland in the 1940s to work in our NHS, while my mother worked in the care sector, a garment factory, and later in retail.

From these resilient women, I've inherited my moral compass—always striving to assist those in need, empower our community, and amplify the voices of the unheard.

Covid was particularly difficult for me. I was still driving buses until November 2020 and saw how badly it affected our bus drivers around the country. In February 2021 my mum, Carol lost her life to it. I saw the compassion and hard work our health workers demonstrated in that time first hand.

I’m Sean Halsall. I was born in Southport, I’ve lived here my whole life. I’m proud of our town, it gave me an incredible childhood and I feel lucky to have had those opportunities of summers playing in the sand dunes

Since getting involved in politics in 2018 I've dedicated my life to empowering our communities. Whether thats supporting the local youth club, helping a domestic violence CIC get set up, or helping with clearing allotments and building a thriving community there.

Southport deserves a voice that will speak up for the people who live here. Southport deserves a voice that is not tied to voting along party lines. Party lines that can be often against the interests of the residents here.

I can promise whatever your politics whatever your background, I will be here to listen. If you elect me you’ll get an open, transparent and accessible MP. An MP that won't shy away from speaking with your voice.
